In 2000 it became clear to Daniel Cordoba, AES founder, that the equities markets were in for turbulent times. Serendipitously one of his clients said to him ‘I know you can place real estate in an IRA, go find out how to do that.” That became the first venture in to self-directed retirement plans and the new future for Daniel Cordoba. In 2003 Jeremy Farver joined the company; it quickly became a financial practice producing IRA LLC’s with checkbook control primarily serving the real estate market. Because of Cordoba and Farver’s experience as financial advisors and as merger and acquisition specialists, the notion of corporate structure melded with retirement products became a natural extension of their knowledge and past experiences.
The venture then incorporated in 2004 and became and still is the leading self-directed retirement firm in the real estate market. In 2006 the company introduced the Self-Directed (self-directed) 401(k) to the market and it quickly became a capitalization tool of choice for real estate investors. In 2007 and 2008 this same tool saved many real estate transactions from failure through self-funding.
The company now offers funding solutions not only for real estate investment deals but also franchises, and private business opportunities.
In 2010 the company launched the Asset Exchange Franchise Network (AEFN) due to the market’s desire to be able to do business with the “local guy”. AES past affiliation with equity market organizations provided the company with a solid foundation to build a financial advisory firm with non-traditional assets.
AES products are designed to meet the requirement of the tax-code; AES Self-Directed plans are compliant to IRS tax code (IRC 4975, publication 590 and code 408). To date AES is aware of 50 units (structured plans) that have been audited; all have passed the structure test. The IRS demands that these plans provide complete compliance to the code and exclusive benefit to the retirement plan. However, many competitor products that are touted as compliant products to the IRS code are merely modifications of standard business entities – they have produced problems for clients when tragedy occurs such as death or disability.
